New England, 1691. Fear and superstition are rampant. Singing, dancing and amusement of any kind are forbidden. Five girls coming of age in Salem Village, desperate for release of their thoughts and feelings, find an ally in Tituba, a slave who longs for freedom. Deep in the woods, the girls make a pact and build a sisterhood. Then bonds are formed, promises made and broken in an exploration of the history and causes of the Salem witch trials.
Post show discussions offer insightful examination of how young people constrained by authority have negotiated alliances and power throughout history just as they do today.
