An Ideal Husband
Description
First performed in 1895, AN IDEAL HUSBAND revolves around blackmail and political corruption, and touches on the themes of public and private honor. The action is set in London, in "the present", takes place over the course of twenty-four hours, and it is often considered Wilde's dramatic masterpiece.
"Sooner or later," Wilde notes, "we shall all have to pay for what we do." But he adds that, "No one should be entirely judged by their past."
Revolving around blackmail and political corruption, the action touches on themes of public and private honor that are as resonant today as they were when Wilde first penned them.
An Ideal Husband has been reimagined as a radio play. Accompanying the audio track will be costume design renderings by sophomore Design/Production major Amaya Mack.
